8 really fun Netflix shows for teenagers

We love a good Netflix binge, especially in the school holidays. There’s nothing quite as good as guilt-free late-night binge (as opposed to hiding under your doona watching shows anyway… ahem). If you feel the same way, we’re about to share our favourite Netflix shows for teenagers like us.

Of course, everyone will have their own preferences, especially when it comes to what’s currently streaming – but you can’t go wrong with old favourites. That’s because so many Netflix shows for teenagers never really date. Which is why these older shows are ones you should definitely put on your radar.

1. Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Ches is absolutely OBSESSED with Brooklyn Nine-Nine! It has a hilarious and diverse cast and an exciting storyline that has left her binging episodes for hours on end. Ari loves it too.

If you looking for great characters and heaps of laughs, this one’s for you.

2. The Good Place

We found ‘The Good Place’ to be a perfect mix of comedy and seriousness. The show manages to address contemporary issues yet kept us laughing and wondering what would happen next. If you loved B99, you definitely will love this one!

3. Gilmore Girls

‘Gilmore Girls’ is a heart-warming coming of age story that we thoroughly enjoyed watching with our family. Ches couldn’t help but fall in love with characters and happily followed their journey over all seven seasons. Seven might sound like a lot, but trust us, you’ll be wishing this story never comes to an end.

4. Atypical

‘Atypical’ is a teen drama/comedy that follows the life of Sam, an autistic teenage boy. It is a quirky, yet heartfelt story that opened our eyes to the world beyond neurotypicals. A must-see if you love teen coming of age shows.

5. Ja’mie: Private School Girl

This hilarious Chris Lilley production is a light-hearted film that mocks typical Australian private girls. It is extraordinarily relatable for us and brings an entirely new meaning to comedy. The show is not for everyone, but definitely worth looking at.

6. Greenhouse Academy

‘Greenhouse Academy’ is a great mix of drama, mystery, and crime. It follows the story of a sister and a brother that go to a school at the same place as their mother went when she was a kid. They expected to have a normal time there but their experience was far from it.

7. Cold Case Files

This is more of a left-of-centre Netflix shows for teenagers pick, but hear us out! ‘Cold Case Files’ is a series of documentaries about crimes that ‘went cold’ and took years and years to solve. It’s not all dark as bringing justice for families close to the victims is so heart-warming. The endings are also very satisfying if you are into crime (which Ari very much is)

8. Schitt’s Creek

‘Schitt’s Creek’ is a hilarious comedy about a once-rich family finds themselves with no money, forcing them to leave their old lavish lifestyle and move to a rural city to build a new life. We admit it takes a few episodes to get into it, but promise it is worth it! Stick with it and then you won’t be able to get enough.
